Just a quick one today. I recently started looking into a rear harness solution. Something I can use with the kids, and then adjust as they get taller. There doesn’t seem to be a ton of information on the ‘net about this. I can’t tell if this is because no one wheels with their kids, or because no one though that a harness in the back would be a good/safe idea?
I found a little information about how to install one at least. First, you need to decide on a harness, and then you need to decide how to mount it. Because of the angles involved in the wrangler, you need a cross-bar to run the harness over behind the seat. I found a bolt-in cross bar from Rock Hard 4×4. And I found 3-point harnesses from Corbeau.
So I ordered the bar, and the harness, and they arrived a few days ago. The problem though, is, that the bar does not match what Rock Hard 4×4 shows on their site. I believe that the product they’re displaying is the RH1001-J, and that they change the RH-1001-U slightly. The bar I received has a larger arc to it compared to the 1001-J. I spent a little time mocking it up today, and there doesnt seem to be any way to mount it in the way that they depict. It extends out too far, and certainly wont fit under my TrekTop, i’m not even certin that it would fit under a factory top. If it does, it would be very close.
I sent an inquity to RockHard, we’ll see what they come back with. I suspect that I would be better off with the TJ bar, rather than the LJ bar, if they are indeed different. I’m not sure why they have two different bars though.
