So, I've driven Jeeps for a long time. When i bought my JK, i was coming from an XJ daily driver, and a YJ crawler. Sold the YJ, and traded in the XJ on my shiney new JK Sport. I have a lot of faith in the Wrangler brand, but the things so comphy and whatnot that I have to admit that I had my doubts. I know its a sound base, but jumping 21 years from my 1992 wrangler to a 2013, i had my misgivings.
So, its been a little while since Ive posted. A bit's happened since i sold the Smurf. The week after the smurf left my ownership, I found myself with a couple grand in my pocket, and no Wrangler. I knew this state could not last. I hit up a few Jeep dealers, and found a deal I could live with on a 2013 Wrangler, 2-door. Traded in the XJ. A few weeks later I had a business trip to North Carolina. So I drove, of course, about a thousand miles worth of road trip. On top of that I have about 80 miles round trip commute for work every day.
So. here it is, my ongoing project. DIYJ.
A friend of mine bought this Jeep years ago, at the time it ran, had a 2.5L manual trans, soft top, 1990 YJ. He drove it for a while, then his brother did, then his dad ended up with it. Then it sat in his driveway for a while. He had another YJ, so he scavanged the hood, fenders, grill, tailgate, doors, and soft-top as spares for if he ever needed them.
The brother of a high-school friend of my wife's, is missing. He was on a camping/hiking trip in the Sierra Nevada Mountains, in the Mammoth Lake area. He was separated from his friends when his car broke down, and never met back up with them as planned. The hunch is that he went on a hike on his own while waiting for his car repair.
He's been missing for almost a month. It doesn't look good.
... Is sort of like putting a child up for adoption.. You want to find it the best home posible, you want it to have a god life, and you want it to live on...
Not that I've ever adopted, or put a child up for, adoption.. But I've owned my 1992 YJ Islander since 2001. That's 12 years if you're counting. In that time it's gone from a completely stock street Jeep, to an SOA crawler. It's gone from my daily driver, to my trail toy, and now it's gone from mine, to someone elses.
Well, my commuter car, an 05 Dodge Neon, is no longer in my possession. It was hit by a hail storm about a month ago, and the insurance company has decided to total it.
Some useful information i ran across while looking for ways to identify a 4.0L for DIYJ.
The casting number is cast into the head, and found on the drivers side.
